The internet society (ISOC) aims for the internet to be open, globally –connected, secure and trustworthy. They seek collaboration with all who share these goals. One of their partners is the internet engineering Task Force (IETF). IETF is the leading internet standards body that develops open standards for the internet.

Dr John Tarus -President/Chair

Dr. John K. Tarus received his PhD degree in Computer Science from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China in 2017. He also holds an M.Phil. degree in Information Technology from Moi University, Kenya received in 2011. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Information Technology, School of Information Sciences. He is a former Ag. Director of ICT in Moi University, Kenya. His research interests include recommender systems, e-learning, big data, data mining and open source software. He has published widely in high impact refereed journals and international conference proceedings in his field. He is a member of the Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa (FOSSFA) and Linux Professional Institute.

Mr Alphonce Oywech-Vice Chair

Alphonce is a network engineer who believes in the power of knowledge as a tool for revolution. He has a deep interest and passion in technology, research and article writing and spends most of his time exploring community networks, software development and design thinking methodologies. He is currently working as the project coordinator for TunapandaNET community network championed by Tunapanda Kibera CBO and is involved in community outreach and engagement, facilitating community digital training workshops, network deployment and maintenance. Alphonce is also a poet and enjoys martial arts.

Hawi Rapudo -Secretary General

Has a decade of experience in Research and Development, Governance, and Leadership. Human Security and Peace; Project Management and Community Development, Grant Management and Political Economy Analysis, etc At Kijiji Yeetu and Internet society and promoted innovative and transformation solutions for counties and communities in Kenya. He has worked with International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), Usalama Forum, Chemchemi Ya Ukweli, Saferworld, PeaceNet, UN-Habitat, UNV and UNDP among others. Hawi holds MSc Governance, Peace and Security, BA Leadership and Management, Dip. Community Development among many education credentials.

Joel Okomoli -Treasurer

He is currently a Data Management Assistant at National Aids and STI Control Programme – NASCOP based in Busia County. He supports The County Health Management Team (CHMT) in Data collection, collation, analysis and reporting processes. Previously, He also worked with The Ministry of Health and Social Services in Namibia in the areas of data management, disease surveillance, user support, PC applications deployment / maintenance, networking and system monitoring.

Edna Karijo- Trustee

Ms. Edna Karijo was Elected as a Trustee of the Internet Society of Kenya. She is a Public Policy specialist and a Champion for Digital/ICT Skills for Youth in Kenya. Ms. Karijo is the Program Manager at eMobilis, an 11-year-old Award Winning ICT and Digital Training Institution/Hub based in Nairobi, Kenya, who’s Mission is to create opportunities for African Youth by Training them on Digital, software and other technologies that prepare them for the future of work by equipping them with marketable, industry driven skills.She is also an award-winning Mentor with the Presidential DigiTalent Program (PDTP), a Finalist of the Women in Tech Africa Awards 2021 and an Alumna of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) East Africa Program. A thought Leader and Mentor for Women in STEM, she has Spoken at Virtual Conferences including the Young Women in Technology East Africa Summit, as well as a Speaker at the Mentorship for Women in STEM.

As a project manager he is able to understand the workplace challenges that employees under go. As a mentor he is able to bridge, guide and inspire others. He is also a counselor at the Red Cross.
